Welcome Message

Welcome to the First Regional Conference on Cultural Property Protection!

August 10-12, 2021

On behalf of the conference organizers, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the First Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Cultural Property Protection Conference!

Throughout the MENA region, the preservation of cultural heritage has suffered numerous challenges including environmental change and the illicit trade in cultural property. As there are many groups working on such cultural property issues, most often in specific contexts or in support of bilateral agreements, the goal of this workshop is to bring together government representatives, NGO’s, academics, and other officials from throughout the region to discuss case studies, expand professional networks, and work towards regional cooperation in an effort to meet challenges together.

We are pleased to bring the first part of the conference to you virtually, with more than 30 pre-recorded individual presentations along with live discussion sessions from leaders in the field. The three-day conference will include discussions on case studies and best practices on the topics of digitization, management, and sustainability of heritage collections, site management/security, and public engagement and outreach.

All sessions of this conference will be recorded. Registration includes free and unlimited access to replay all recordings.

We hope you enjoy the conference and look forward to being together for the second edition that will take place in Cairo, Egypt in 2022!

Warm Regards,

Dr. Louise Bertini
